Before
By 2017 the house was being marketed as a teardown lot. The Los Angeles Conservancy took up its cause. In 2019 Eric Choi and Philippe Naouri bought it to keep it.

The idea
The Chuey House: Neutra's small glass pavilion of 1956–57, set on a hilltop promontory with the city and the mountains around it, a single pine beside it.

The intervention
A restoration led with architect Tim Campbell: a second storey and a guest house added behind the house, the house brought back to use rather than frozen.

The restraint
The original line was kept. What Neutra drew stays in front; what the house needed to live now sits behind it.
